Paddle For Kids

One of my favorite reasons for loving where we live, in the small town of SH, are the endless amounts of local activities on the weekends. We don’t have to load in the car, and travel somewhere to find fun. We’re able to walk downtown for an event, lunch on Main street, coffee in the morning, ice cream on a hot day, or exercise in the park.

On Saturday May 13, we enjoyed a day at the new Marina park downtown, for the Paddle For Kids event, put on by our good friends at Blake Real Estate. Doug always DJ’s this particular event, and that’s our Webber family contribution, to raising awareness for newborn screening programs.

The girls always have a great time playing in the water, and sliding down the big water slide. Doug does an amazing job reading his audience, and providing appropriate music for the group. He’s so great at it. I sit and chat with friends, and enjoy lovely beverages.

We cheer on the paddler’s as they launch from the beach in front of the resort. Dario, Doug’s best buddy always participates in the race, so we cheer for him.

Sophie invited her friends Lauren, Annie, and Ella, and Sara invited her girlfriend Lea, to join in the fun this year. They ran around for hours either swimming, sliding down the water slide, or dancing to DJ Daddie’s tunes. Lisa, Melissa, Kim, and I enjoyed mimosa’s in our lounge chairs, as we watched the kids play and our husband’s race and DJ.

Once Uncle Dario finished the race, he loaded the girls on his paddle board, for a quick ride.

Then they swam for a bit more in the afternoon, before the hula hoop contest, and awards ceremony.

That evening, our friends Paige, Salvo and their girls Evie and Annie came for dinner. Doug plays the role of chef most of the time, but this night, Salvo did the cooking. He’s from Italy, and created for us a homemade pasta in a red sauce with ribs. It was amazing. We spent about 1.5 hours in the kitchen together enjoying wine, conversation, and helping Salvo roll the pasta. Doug made bruschetta for us to enjoy, while we cooked. Our neighbors Larry, Cindy, and Dario stopped in for a bit too. It was a great night with great friends.

It’s starting to feel like summer!
